Mel Berger of Mels Olives has been selling pickled products for more than 20 years all over Southern California at fairs, flea markets and special events. The Secret My Italian-style pepperoncinis are the best! My secret ingredient is garlic. I use a great deal of it. The garlic seems to take some of the heat from the Italian peppers. We use only the finest Gilroy Valley garlic. The Pepperoncinis are great with sandwiches, chopped up in a salad, or just eat them with your favorite beverage. My most popular item is the Italian-Style olive. It has a garlic flavor, along with other Italian seasonings. My favorite is the Italian-style olive with crushed red peppers added. This item appears on the order sheet as the "Hot Italian-Style Olive". I also stuff the Italian-Style olive with your choice of almonds, onions, garlic, pimento or jalapenos. Mels Recipe... After years of research, from a family recipe, I have worked up a very special recipe for the basic brine that I use when I pickle my products. In preparation of my Italian-style products, I use a lot of garlic, some bay leaves, a dash of hot spices, some oregano, salt and pure California water.
